Brooklyn Invisalign, Brooklyn NY Braces, NYC Braces Orthodontist and more!
There’s a variety of types of braces out there — and there are just as many types of retainers. Let’s take a look at them:
Hawley
Chances are you’ve seen an Hawley retainer. Traditional wire retainers, they’re the kind you always see in movies and TV shows, getting thrown out on cafeteria trays. Hawley retainers have acrylic bodies molded to fit the top and/or bottom of your mouth, and metal wires to fit over your teeth. They are supposed to be worn continuously for a set period of time, then can be worn just at night.
Essix
Essix retainers resemble Invisalign trays — they’re clear, plastic, and molded to fit right over your teeth. They’re typically used in less severe cases, and like Hawley retainers are meant to be worn at all times for a while, then just at night.
Bonded
Bonded retainers are permanent or semi-permanent metal wires that are bonded or cemented to the backs of the teeth. They’re used in the most severe cases, and might be kept on forever or just a few years.
When it’s time for you to get your braces off and start using a retainer, you can discuss your options with your Brooklyn orthodontist. Dr. Yakov Eisenberger can tell you all about which kind will be best for you.
