Brooklyn Invisalign, Brooklyn NY Braces, NYC Braces Orthodontist and more!
I am generally not one to judge. That said, there is a serious flossing problem going around. Flossing is incredibly important for the health of not only your teeth, but your gums. My stomach turns when I read the statistic that only 12 percent of Americans choose to floss every day. That feeling of illness increases exponentially when I hear that nearly half of ALL Americans NEVER floss. Your NY orthodontist would be so upset with you.
This is mind boggling. Dentists have been recommending flossing for as long as anyone reading this can remember. In fact, the benefits of flossing have been touted for over 100 years. How could this many people be so brazenly dismissive of their dental hygiene?
It probably starts in your youth. Flossing just isn’t instilled in children like brushing. This is maybe, a little understandable. Parents struggle to remind their kids to brush, and to wash their hands before they eat, and to eat their vegetables, and do their homework. Flossing is pretty much the last thing on a parent’s mind. Acknowledging that this is a short coming in our society is important. Toothless children become toothless adults after all.
Whenever someone tells me they don’t floss I recommend they do something. Go home and floss just once, be thorough. After you’re done, smell the floss. It will disgust you what you’ve allowed to dwell in your mouth. I did this when I was 17 after a particularly troubling trip to my Brooklyn Orthodontist and since then I’ve flossed every day. It’s important.
