Sometimes one of my molars hurts and I get scared. I get scared that it’s a cavity and it’s growing. That it’s growing and taking over the entire tooth. I don’t have dental insurance. A cavity is a hundred and twenty-five dollars. And that’s if the cavity doesn’t go anywhere. If it spreads to another tooth that means it could be two cavities, which is obviously twice the amount. That’s like half my paycheck. I wouldn’t be able to eat for a week. Both because of the pain from having two cavities filled, and having no extra funds to pay for my food.
If only I had visited my NY orthodontists when I was younger. That would have allowed me to have straight teeth, which would have dramatically lessened my chances for cavities. These cavity pains aren’t on the front or the back of the tooth, they’re in between teeth. I know because my dentist told me after my last check up that I have the propensity to develop cavities between my teeth because of the way my teeth fit together. He told me to floss extra carefully. And I do. But if I had gone to my NY orthodontists back then and he had given me Medicaid braces…
